Description

The Bayou Bodcau crayfish, Bouchardina robisoni, was described originally from specimens collected in Lafayette County, Arkansas (Hobbs, 1977). This crayfish is endemic to Arkansas (Bouchard and Robison, 1981; Robison and Allen, 1995; Robison et al., 2008) and few collections have been made since 1977. Indeed, the species is considered critically imperiled (S1) in Arkansas by The Nature Conservancy (NatureServe, http:// www.natureserve.org/explorer). The only published photograph of B. robisoni is in Lukhaup (2003). To date, nothing else has been published regarding this diminutive crayfish. Because of suspected rarity and its status as an endemic species, the current study was initiated to learn more about B. robisoni and to ascertain its distributional limits. Specific objectives were to delineate geographic distribution and to determine current conservation status of the species.
